New Traffic Improvements for our District
The North Flatbush Avenue BID continues to work closely with the Department of Transportation and neighborhood groups to alleviate congestion and continue to promote pedestrian safety in our district, especially along Flatbush Avenue.
Starting on or around April 15th, 2010, DOT will be making the following changes.
Full time left turns will be banned at the following Flatbush Avenue intersections.
Park Place - Southbound left turns will be prohibited
Sterling Place - Current AM peak northbound left turn ban will be made FULL TIME.
Park Place eastbound can be accessed via a right turn onto 7th Avenue and then a left turn onto Park Place. Sterling Place northbound can be accessed from Grand Army Plaza via Vanderbilt Avenue (bear right) and left turn onto Sterling Place.
Earth Day 2010
SPRING IS HERE! The North Flatbush Avenue BID has alot in store for the district for April 2010.
This is the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day and to honor this event, the BID will start to do some planting in the treet pits along Flatbush Avenue. We have 44 tree pits that are in need of some soil, mulch and plants. If you would like to volunteer and help with these plantings, please email us at the BID office at info@nfbid.com. Join the Planting Community!
Friday, April 16, from 11 am -12pm, members of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden will be visiting the BID for a Workshop. Each year the BID enters the Greenest Block in Brooklyn Contest sponsored by the Brooklyn Botanic Garden/Greenbridge Program. The Bears Community Garden in our district won in 2008 for best Community Garden and Burrito Bar and Kitchen won 2 years in a row for best garden storefront. If you are a Block or Merchant Association or a BID nearby, join us for this Workshop. Find out how you can participate in the contest by coming to our next BBG/Community meeting. The BID will be handing out free seedling packets for all who attend. For more information on this meeting email us at info@nfbid.com.
On Sunday, April 25 the North Flartbush Avenue BID will be presenting its 5th Annual Childrens Earth Day Event. Children between the ages of 2-10 years are welcome to the Pacific Street Bears Community Garden for eco- friendly arts and crafts, interactive puppet show with Pinch the Rat Packer, seedling planting, learn about compost and recycling, free organic smoothies and much more and its all FREE. From 1-4pm. The Community garden is located on the corner of Flatbush Avenue and Pacific Street. Enter on Flatbush Avenue. For more information on this event and all our events check out the flyer on our website at www.nfbid.com.
FX show “Rescue Me” films interior shots in our district
FX television Series, Rescue Me, starring Denis Leary, filmed interior and exterior episode scenes in our district on Tuesday, March 2, 2010. Film crews lined our streets on Flatbush Avenue from Park Place to Sterling early in the morning. Some of us were lucky enough to get inside Kings Pharmacy and watch the filming. Kings Pharmacy is a long time merchant of the BID offering the best in customer care, no wonder “tommy” chose to go there for his sundries. Visit Kings Pharmacy at 357 Flatbush Avenue between Park Place and Sterling, an established pharmacy for over 60 years. Their number one goal is patient satisfaction.

COMMUNITY NOTICE
Closure of Sections of Fifth Avenue and Pacific Street
Beginning on Monday, March 8, 2010
On Monday, March 8, 2010 by 6 AM, the following streets in Brooklyn will be permanently closed:
• Fifth Avenue (between Flatbush and Atlantic Avenues)
• Pacific Street (between Fifth and Sixth Avenues)
• Pacific Street (between Vanderbilt and Carlton Avenues)
Local and emergency vehicle access will be maintained as needed.
These streets are being closed to accommodate the Atlantic Yards project. Northbound traffic on Fifth Avenue can use Flatbush
Avenue or Sixth Avenue to continue north; southbound traffic can use Sixth Avenue. Eastbound traffic on Pacific Street can use
Dean Street; westbound traffic can use Bergen Street.
To facilitate vehicle circulation, Sixth Avenue (between Flatbush Avenue and Pacific Street) will become two-way and the block of
Pacific Street (between Carlton and Sixth Avenues) will become one-way westbound.
These changes necessitate the removal of the Cobble Hill-bound B63 bus stop on Fifth Avenue, between Pacific Street and Atlantic
Avenue. Passengers can use existing bus stops on Fifth Avenue (at Bergen Street) and on Atlantic Avenue (at Fourth Avenue).
Please see the detour map below.
Advisory signs will be posted in advance of the closures and detour signs will be posted during the work. Traffic agents will be
assigned to facilitate the flow of traffic and pedestrians.
